here's my latest project .. a friend of ours is having their first baby and she's due in aug. .. here's what i'm making for her, i just started it the other day and work on it every chance i get ..
guess you'd call it a cheater quilt of sorts, there was no piecing to it .. it's flannel and i've sandwiched it and now i'm starting the quilting .. i layered it w/low loft batting so i can hand quilt it
here's what the back looks like thus far .. i'm working my way from the center out and doing them in rows of two
... and there ya have it .. be kind on the comments would ya - this is my first shot at hand quilting =p
loathed:
- being sick in bed
- catching up on the cleaning that didn't get done all week becuz of it
- not being able to sleep for longer then 2 hours at a time, or at all
- stepping on the scale
loved:
- the time i've spent w/my friends
- this new flavor of kool-aid
- last night's episode of law & order
- working on my new pair of jeans
spring has sprung, the weather's finally getting nice and that means one thing ... it's garage sale season !!! woo hoo !
my mother in law and i love going to garage sales together, and we do it every year.. and there's only one thing we like better ... and that's a church sale !! double woo hoo ! they're the best cuz they have the fill a bag for a buck sales ..
one of the last ones we went to i crammed a bag and a half full of nothing but mens' ties .. i walked outta there w/almost 300 ties ..
... they range in designers from giorgio armani to the local guy down there street .. and styles, stripes and paisleys of all kinds, colors, and shapes that you cold possibly imagine from the late 60's until the current day ..
all for just a buck and a half - what a bawwgin ! =p
here's how i plan on using them ...
here's what ( i thought was pretty clever ) to do w/the scraps ..

i filled a bag at that same church sale full of jeans for a buck too
... in that bag, i packed a pair of calvin klein jeans, my fav's, and they're 3 sizes too small for me ... ( when i get the new meds, all that'll change .. ) .. i love them so much and they're in such fabulous shape, i couldn't just leave them there
soooooooo, in order to fit my fat ass into a pair of jeans 3 sizes too small, something had to change ..
k, here are the jeans ...
i sliced them open at the outter seams ...
sewed some 2" square strips of fabric together in a row ...
and sewed that strip to the sliced open halves of my, 3 sizes too small, jeans ...
.. then sew the leg seams back together
i also sewed some bias tape as trim around the ankles ..
not sure about the top yet .. i might leave it, i might cut them into really low low riders .. not sure yet ..
... there's only 3 different floral squares repeated in the whole sequence ...
i really had alotta fun w/this ... this is as far as i've gotten so far .. i might work on the other side tonight, or i might just leave it for tomorrow ..
.. and if all goes well, by tomorrow i can say i'm 3 sizes smaller then i was yesterday =)
For a while now I've been trying to get my sewing room matters in order. It's such a mess !
Been creating things too .. made this baby romper bunny suit for my cousin's daughter. I called my aunt for whatever reason at the time and she told me my cousin had had her baby. So I asked her for her info, ya know, phone #, email addy, etc...
Got her mailing addy, needed that cuz I made something for the baby .. but never did get a phone # or email addy. No worries, I sent her my phone # and email addy in the letter I put in w/this outfit I made for her.
So, I send this outfit, all packed up nice ya know, via priority mail. I have a tracking number so I'll know if and when she gets it.
... it's been almost 2 weeks .. and I haven't heard a word from either one of them ...
I even called my aunt again but got an answering machine. Ok, fine, left a message, left my phone number, plz call me back.
.. it's been almost a week ... and I haven't heard a word from either of them ...
Remind me not to do any more favors for my " family " plz.
Thought maybe y'all would enjoy to see them here ... maybe someone other then myself can appreciate the time, effort and money I put into this outfit.
.. and there ya have it, that's what i've been up to lately. 'course this didn't take me that long at all to make this. took my time on it and only took 2 days, not bad.
... i just really wish someone would at least call me to let me know they got the package fgs .. lucky for me i got a tracking number

POST SCRIPT ... wouldn't ya know it, not even 20 minutes after i posted this, my aunt calls me to tell me my cousin got the romper and loves it. they're both just so busy, was hard to get back to me until now/then. i can believe it .. my aunt's super busy w/my grandparents ( grampa's in a nursing home now =( ), and i guess my cousin's busy w/both the new baby, going back to work, and trying to write out & send ty notes from her baby shower. so, i told her to let know i'm here, not going anywhere, and to get to me whenever. i was mostly concerned as to whether or not it got there.
sooooooooooo ... now i feel like a total moron ... but, still good to know she got it
the snow's about up to the bottom of the porch as you can see .. they're called for 3- 6 inches overnight, which is what ya see here .. and another 8 - 12 inches to come later on today .. thank goodness for snow blowers and 4 wheel drive !
it's my baby girl's birthday's today and i'm sure she's just loving all this snow .. not sure how her horses are gonna take to it, but i'm sure she has them well bundled up ..
tomorrow she's coming to stay with us for a while .. she said she's so excited =) .. i am too ! hehe .. we have so much fun together ..
on her list of stuff she wants for her birthday, she listed a nintnedo, a breyer horse, of course, and a soft blanket .. as soon as she mentioned a soft blanket the first thing that came to mind is to show her how make her own .. i plan on taking her to one of our fabric stores so she can pick out her own fabric and color ..
.. last time she was here we baked some cookies from scratch and she was just so thrilled and so proud of herself .. she said she had only made them w/her gramma and they always made the chilled ones out of a can .. when i told her we were going to make our own from scratch, she looked at me kinda confused and said, " how are we going to do that ? " .. so i explained it to her .. her eyes just lit up like a christmas tree ..
she'll be here early tomorrow morning and told her she can stay as long as she likes .. she was so thrilled ..
it's really fun when she comes to stay .. but i have to admit, it's also a relief to see her go home too .. don't get me wrong, i love her to pieces, but man oh man can she wear ya out .. it's times like that that make me go, whew, am i glad i got my tubes tied ! haha .. who needs kids when i have over 2 dozen to spoil ?
oh ya, and lest we forget, one grand niece, woot ! i'm so proud *G*
have a happy and safe new year y'all and don't kick yourself in the ass if you can't keep your new years resolution .. i don't think many of us, if any of us, stay true to them anyway ..
after that last one, i was going to leave well enough alone and watch some football .. but, then i started looking at the others and thought, why not ?
.. so here's the latest sunbonnet sue i put together, enjoy it ..
.. and there ya have it .. i just really, really hope she likes it ..
that, and i really, really hope i can have it done before the baby's here
she's appliqued onto the fabric now .. i added some lace to the baby carriage and sewed the buttons/wheels on ..
i also stitched some X's down her back .. figured they might pass as buttons down her back
.. she just looked a little off balance to me w/out something on that side ..
... here's the angel sue .. i finally found her foot, so i didn't have to make another one woot !
i'd like to add some lace to this sue, make it look like angel wings ...
.. the pattern showed 3 candles, but it's my quilt, so it's my story .. it's her 1st birthday =P
... last but not least, the last sue ..
.. next is more embellishing, decorative stitiches, etc ...
i'll be sure to show any more progress ..

UPDATE:
it's about 6pm now & i went outside w/my omnigrid ruler ... and measured 22" and still snowing !! rofl
this snow is coming down right now with no end in sight. They're calling for at least 11" ..
.. i think heavy snow qualifies as something that only occurs during winter, don't you ?

that shoulder's not part of this one .. guess i lost the foot and this shoulder as well, so i used one from another sue .. i'll have to remember to make her a shoulder too ..
so there ya have it .. slowly but surely it's coming along .. i just really regret i couldn't have had it done in time for her baby shower =(

i got this box on clearance at one of our local hardware stores .. got it for 50 cents ! so i loaded up on a few .. they're also coming in handy to hold my sewing needles, pins, measuring tape, etc...
